Experts agree that the risk for malnutrition is high for many seniors, especially for seniors who don’t have enough income to buy food, are isolated, or suffer from illness or other conditions that affect independence.

Proper nutrition in older adults has many benefits, including:

  • Maintaining health and well-being
  • Improving the body’s ability to heal
  • Reducing risk for medical and surgical complications
  • Improving recovery from traumas and reducing the likelihood of hospital readmission

PVI Meals on Wheels’ Registered Dietician (RD) provides counseling and education to help our clients meet their nutritional needs. As a PVI Meals on Wheels client, we focus on your health so that you can live as independently as possible.

Menu Planning

Recipes and menus for PVI Meals on Wheels clients are created by a geriatric nutritionist and certified by a registered dietitian. PVI Meals on Wheels meals provide at least one-third of an adults recommended daily nutritional intake and are prepared with strict nutrition oversight, no added salt and low amounts of fat and sugar. Our meals provide clients with healthy and satisfying choices.

Our Menu

In addition to compliance with the Dietary Guidelines for Americans and the Older Americans Act, PVI Meals on Wheels menus follow the DASH (Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension) menu pattern.  The DASH diet includes increased fresh fruits, vegetables, fish, poultry, and whole grains.  The DASH menus support chronic disease management of diabetes, hypertension and high cholesterol, which supports quality of life for older adult residents. Learn more about DASH here.
